This delightful tale tells of George, a young shepherd, who after tending to his sheep night and day feels a little bored, so he plays a trick of the local villagers. He tells them that a wolf is trying to attack his flock and they run to help, as he laughs at their gullibility. George soon learns his lesson when a wolf actually attacks and no one comes to his call for help.

As with all fables, children can also learn important lessons and the difference between right and wrong. The fable for The Boy Who Cried Wolf focuses on not telling lies, which is a key idea for toddlers and children to grasp.
