Beetle Boy follows a boy named Darkus whose father has mysteriously disappeared. Darkus is living next to unpleasant neighbours and facing a lot of his own worries, but everything changes when a giant beetle named Baxter emerges from the trouser leg of his new neighbour. Baxter seems to be more than just a bug — there's something special about him.
 
Darkus and Baxter begin to form a bond. They realize there might be clues to Darkus’s missing father, and suddenly Darkus’s life becomes entangled with a peculiar and sinister character, Lucretia Cutter, who has a fondness for beetle jewellery. Darkus and Baxter uncover threats, secrets, and connections that take them on an adventure through insect worlds and human mysteries.
