When a newborn baby is found wedged in a vanity cabinet in a rundown apartment near Montreal, Dr Temperance “Tempe” Brennan is called in.
 
She also discovers mummified remains of two more babies in the same apartment, raising chilling questions.
 
Her investigation leads her to Yellowknife, a desolate diamond-mining town near the Arctic Circle, where she must unravel a dangerous mystery — and confront people who are desperate to hide the truth.
