In a dystopian future, society is divided into five factions, each representing a different virtue: Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite, Candor, and Amity. Sixteen-year-old Beatrice “Tris” Prior must choose one faction on her Choosing Day. Tris decides to join Dauntless, the fearless and brave faction — leaving her family behind. During her initiation, Tris undergoes physically and mentally challenging tests. She struggles to master fear, make new allies, and hide a dangerous secret: she’s Divergent, meaning she doesn’t fit neatly into any one faction. As tensions rise between factions, Tris must navigate love, loyalty, and betrayals. Her divergence makes her a target, and she soon realizes that survival may come at a steep price.
