Stuck in Fog focuses on reinforcing children’s phonics learning, especially the short vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u). The story follows characters as they navigate through fog, which adds a “problem” to be solved — for example, letters or sounds being obscured or harder to recognise because of the fog. Through reading, children practise decoding (“green words”, decodable by phonics rules), recognising “red words” (sight / exception words), and engage in comprehension questions and vocabulary checks.
