The Island of Missing Trees tells the story of Kostas and Defne, a Greek and Turkish Cypriot couple who fall in love during the civil conflict in 1970s Cyprus. Their forbidden love unfolds in secret, under the shelter of a fig tree in a taverna.

Decades later in London, their daughter Ada, now 16, struggles with grief after her mother's death and a deep disconnect from her cultural roots. As she begins to uncover family secrets, the past unravels—told partly through the perspective of the fig tree, which witnessed everything and was brought to London by Kostas.
