The Little Red Hen is a classic folk tale about a hardworking hen and her lazy barnyard companions. When the red hen finds a grain of wheat, she asks the other animals — a dog, a cat, and a duck — to help plant it, but they all refuse. She does the planting herself, and again asks for help to water, harvest, and mill the wheat. Each time the others decline. Finally, when the bread is baked, and she offers them a chance to help eat it, they are eager to join in. But the hen, having done all the work alone, teaches them a lesson by saying: “No, I will eat it myself.” The story emphasizes the value of initiative, effort, and fairness.
