In this playful and imaginative tale, a colorful matatu (Kenyan shared minibus) from the coastal town of Watamu sets sail into the Indian Ocean—literally! Driven by a daring Rasta driver who learned scuba diving, the matatu unexpectedly becomes a sea vessel.

The driver hires an octopus as his enthusiastic tout, emerging from the water to guide “fish” passengers. Below the waves, the marine passengers—from eels to snails—react with amusement and outrage at this strange vehicle navigating their world. Through witty dialogue (like a sea cucumber hosting a goby), the story mixes fantasy, humor, and commentary about greed, respect, and environmental awareness.

The narrative weaves in poetic verses and rhythmic lines, making it ideal for read-aloud storytelling. Children are led on a quirky underwater adventure as the matatu meets coral, schools of fish, and life beneath the ocean—ultimately offering a playful take on respecting the marine environment.
