In the whimsical town of Tale Town, where stories grow on trees, Jack (of Beanstalk fame) and his magical talking chicken, Betsy, are known for their friendly nature. However, their world is shaken when Anansi, a new boy, is seen conversing with a troll in the Deep Dark Woods. Believing trolls signify danger, Jack becomes suspicious of Anansi, thinking he might be a spy. Determined to protect his friends, Jack resorts to using stolen magic to uncover the truth
