In Contrary Mary, the young protagonist Mary wakes up feeling delightfully contrary—wearing her clothes backwards, putting her shoes on the wrong feet, and starting her day in all kinds of whimsical reversals. Each action builds her silly, topsy-turvy world, until the day takes an unexpected turn and Mary finds herself thinking—and acting—a bit more normally by the evening.
