Shine tells the haunting, emotive story of Rosa, a girl born mute and living on the perpetually rainy island of Mirasol, where superstition and fear dominate. The islanders, mistrusting and fearful of anything they don’t understand, treat Rosa as something to hide. She has spent her life isolated, with only her laptop and the internet for companionship, and a nightly ritual: lighting a candle in memory of her late mother. When she meets someone online calling himself Ansel95, she begins to open her heart to the possibility of connection. But then her long-absent mother appears on her doorstep, disrupting all the fragile balance Rosa has constructed.
