King Lear is one of William Shakespeare’s most powerful tragedies, exploring themes of power, loyalty, and the human condition. The play centers on King Lear, an aging monarch who decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters based on their declarations of love for him. When his youngest daughter, Cordelia, refuses to flatter him insincerely, Lear disowns her and divides the inheritance between his two older, deceitful daughters, Goneril and Regan. This decision sets off a chain of events leading to betrayal, madness, and tragedy.

The play delves into the complexities of familial relationships, the consequences of vanity and pride, and the fragility of human existence. Lear's descent into madness and the eventual tragic outcomes for all involved highlight the play's enduring relevance and emotional depth.
