LAPD Detective Renée Ballard investigates two cases during the COVID-19 pandemic: the New Year’s Eve murder of a former gang member and a series of sexual assaults by two serial rapists known as the "Midnight Men." With little support from her department, Ballard teams up with retired detective Harry Bosch.
 
As they uncover links to an old case, Ballard must decide whether to stay in a broken system or follow Bosch's path of independent justice.
